Even the most able person will need a few years to learn about a
company's market, challenge, mission, culture, and people. A
fresh-from-the-outside CEO might be successful at a 50-year-old
company with a huge bureaucracy that manages itself (cf. George
W. Bush taking over the Federal Government). But young enterprises
don't have that kind of inherent stability.
